Tank Container Logistics

The Tank Container Logistics Division of VTG offers global, multi-modal transport and logistics services with tank containers. The company has at its disposal around 9,000 tank containers (as of November 2010) to provide these services. Tank containers can easily be unloaded as a self -contained unit from one type of carrier to another, making them especially suited to door-to-door transport and thereby allowing goods to be transported from the place of production directly to the end user. Tank containers are used primarily for transporting liquid and temperature-controlled products from the chemical, petroleum and compressed gas industries. Transportation using tank containers is safer and more efficient since it is not the goods themselves but rather the container that is unloaded and reloaded.

VTG is one of the world’s largest providers of logistics services for liquid chemicals. It is of prime importance that transportation of these materials is safe and secure. VTG’s Tank Container Logistics Division has been successful in meeting the standards of SQAS (Safety and Quality Assessment System). We combined this certification procedure with an audit by the Chemical Distribution Institute under its maritime packed- cargo protocol (CDI-mpc). The latter is important for operations overseas, including in the US. Both certifications highlight our process-oriented quality and safety management procedures.

For tank container transport, the supply chain can be tailored to the individual customer’s needs. This also applies to scheduling. Our efficiently interlocking processes mean that the customer is spared the high cost of storage. The customer can also choose from among containers with different technical features according to the type of freight. The containers differ in size, permissible net load and load volume. Beyond this, we also offer special containers – with electrical heating systems to maintain a constant temperature – as well as gas tank containers and multi-compartment containers. Depending on the customer’s requirements and the nature of the freight, VTG can carry out one-way deliveries from one location to another via a spotting service or can organize round-trip deliveries for a single order, returning empty containers to the initial point of departure. If the customer requires, the tank containers can also be used for temporary storage.
